Homemade taco seasoning makes an easy, homemade gift to give to friends, party hosts and hostesses, or teachers. It trumps the packaged kind on taste and freshness–plus it doesn’t have preservatives, anti-caking agents, or hydrogenated oils like many of those mixes do.
Here’s all you need:

- Jars: I bought these at Michael’s (similar to these at Target).
- Labels: I bought these Martha Stewart Crafts Border Labels at Michael’s.
- Craft Twine: I found this in the dollar bin at Target, similar to this at Michael’s. You could also use any kind of ribbon.

OK. I love your blog. Your advise is practical and balanced and makes sense. I read it regularly and agree with most of what you say. I’ve also got my dad shopping Aldo regularly and loving it! But seriously? Taco mix as a Christmas gift??? I think I would switch to Hanukkah if someone gave me taco seasoning for Christmas.

Barb–I love giving people homemade food items, especially things they may not make themselves like homemade vanilla extract or homemade granola. In my book, this is a little token gift that’s nice to bring a hostess or give a teacher or put in a gift bag with something else. But if it’s not your thing, that’s okay too!

Do you have the mild taco seasoning recipe its not available at the link anymore and I was just getting to making this today for a few gifts. I love Alton Brown recipes but I think mild would go over better.

Oh bummer! They must’ve taken the link down. I found this one which is pretty close (minus the red pepper flakes and black pepper): http://www.familyfreshmeals.com/2013/05/diy-homemade-taco-seasoning.html
