Skip the bottled salad dressings with artificial ingredients and mix up this recipe for a quick vinaigrette dressing instead.
My husband and I eat salads nearly every evening (my kids are still warming up to them), so we go through a lot of dressing. Once I started making my own, it was impossible to go back to the gloppy bottled kind–especially the ones with preservatives and artificial dyes.

My favorite way to dress a salad is to put the greens in a large serving bowl, drizzle on the dressing, and toss the heck out of it before serving. That way, each leaf is perfectly coated. I like using white balsamic vinegar in this quick vinaigrette dressing, which is a lighter alternative to regular balsamic. But you can use your favorite vinegar instead.
- 1/2 cup white balsamic vinegar
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon onion powder
- 1/4 teaspoon dried basil
- 1/2 teaspoon dried oregano
- 1 teaspoon minced garlic, (about two medium cloves)
- 1 tablespoon sugar
- 3/4 cup olive oil
- Pour vinegar into jar.
- Add salt, onion powder, basil, oregano, garlic, and sugar.
- Add olive oil and shake well.
