This Rich Homemade Hot Cocoa Mix Is Simple To Make With Just 5 Ingredients

Here’s how to make your own homemade hot cocoa mix with just a few simple ingredients. Great to give as a gift too!

Marshmallow in Hot Chocolate

A mug of hot cocoa can help thaw frigid kids post-sledding and comfort chilly kids after a cold walk home from school.

From scratch cocoa? Even better. And it’s simple to make.

How to make homemade hot cocoa mix

You only need a few simple ingredients:

  • Dry milk powder
  • Powdered sugar
  • Cocoa
  • Cornstarch
  • Salt

Whisk the ingredients together in a medium bowl and consider sifting it too. The cornstarch helps to prevent clumping, but sifting all the ingredients can help even more.

Then portion into jars or other airtight containers (a funnel helps keep things neat).

Store in your pantry so you’re ready for cold-nose-and-feet season. Or you can pack up the cocoa mix as holiday gifts (give a jar with a few of my Easy Homemade Marshmallows for an extra-special treat).

    1. Thank you so much! Hope you enjoy it. (By the way, it’s fabulous with whole milk if you want to splurge.)

  1. Cooking fail here. I tried to make the cocoa and it turned out not very well. It was kind of clumpy and not very tasty.

    1. Sorry to hear that, ac! It does require a thorough stirring or it will clump. Sorry it didn’t work out for you. We love it around here!

      1. Hi Sally! My son and I just tried this recipe and loved it:) We live in Fl so everything gets a bit clumpy because of the humidity. I put the mixture through a hand sifter and it got all the clumps out. I’m looking forward to sharing this cocoa with friends during the holidays.
