This was a tough winter for kids. Weeks of frigid temperatures meant recess at school was frequently indoors–and spring will bring a lot of rainy days that nix playground time too. As we know, kids need to be active in order to learn (read Why Kids Need “Brain Breaks” & How You Can Help). So as part of the PTA’s Wellness Committee at my children’s school, I helped put together resources and supplies for our teachers that make active indoor recess easier.
I created this printed list of Free Movement Videos For The Classroom. All of these sites offer short videos that can be done in the classroom. I printed and laminated the list and distributed one to each room. Want to pass it along to teachers and administrators at your child’s school? Click on the image below to download it for free.
I also gave teachers a list of indoor recess supplies to choose from. Some teachers wanted supplies, some didn’t–but the number of items was manageable with the budget we had. Here are the requested items we purchased (click on the item name for price and information):
Does your child’s teacher have active indoor recess? I’d love to hear about it!
