A Radical Suggestion for Holiday Eating

My mom's Thanksgiving table last year, complete with turkey place cards a la Henry.

Tomorrow is Thanksgiving–and the official start of the holiday party circuit.

Worried about overeating your way into 2012? You should be.  A lot of us treat the weeks between Thanksgiving and New Year’s Eve as one big excuse to eat reindeer-shaped frosted sugar cookies for breakfast.

Worried about your kids? You don’t have to be. Do it right and they’ll be able to navigate the holidays with their healthy eating habits intact and be no worse for the wear. Better yet, you won’t have to trail them around holiday parties like a fool saying, “Eat two bites of pizza, and then you can have the cookie!”

Here’s my seemingly crazy holiday party suggestion for you: Keep yourself in check–but give your kids free reign. I wrote about this strategy here for Gig Masters’ Life of the Party blog last week.

Dr. Dina Rose, from It’s Not About Nutrition, also wrote a piece about holiday eating in which she insists you don’t have to “healthify” holiday eating for your children. You can read her post here.

How do you handle holiday eating for your kids–and for yourself?
