My husband and I eat salads nearly every evening (my kids are still warming up to them), so we go through a lot of dressing. Once I started making my own, it was impossible to go back to the gloppy bottled kind–especially the ones with preservatives and artificial dyes.
My favorite way to dress a salad is to put the greens in a large serving bowl, drizzle on the dressing, and toss the heck out of it before serving. That way, each leaf is perfectly coated. I like using white balsamic vinegar in this dressing, which is a lighter alternative to regular balsamic. But you can use your favorite vinegar instead.
- ½ cup white balsamic vinegar
- ¼ teaspoon salt
- ¼ teaspoon onion powder
- ¼ teaspoon dried basil
- ½ teaspoon dried oregano
- 1 teaspoon minced jarred garlic
- 1 tablespoon sugar
- ¾ cup olive oil
- Pour vinegar into jar.
- Add salt, onion powder, basil, oregano, garlic, and sugar.
- Add olive oil and shake well.
